Our privacy practices
A site about surveillance should be able to explain its own. Here is everything this site does and doesn't collect, in plain words.
What we don't collect
- Your camera searches are not logged. Address lookups on the map pass through our server to the OpenStreetMap geocoder so that your IP address is never exposed to a third party, and we keep no record of what you searched.
- No accounts, no forms, no cookies of our own. You can use everything on this site without telling us anything.
- No ads, no data sales, ever.
What we do collect
We keep basic, anonymous traffic statistics so we know which pages actually help people: counts of page views and rough regions, not identities. That's the extent of it.
What third parties can see
The interactive map loads its background tiles from CARTO, a mapping provider, so your browser requests map images from their servers like it would from any website that embeds a map. Camera location data comes from OpenStreetMap through our server. News headlines link out to the original publishers, who have their own privacy policies.
